Egerton High School is a specialist facility for students aged 11-16 who have social, emotional and mental health needs.  All of our students have Education, Health and Social Care plans or are being assessed to see if they need one.  Many of our pupils come to us having had negative experiences in education and life.  Our aim is to make sure that each and every student within our care reaches his or her full potential, both socially and academically.  We do this by carefully reviewing each case presented to us, working with a large team of professionals, and planning and providing an educational experience to enable our young people to overcome their limiting factors and move forward.

Egerton High School adopts a values based approach to education and relentlessly teaches this approach and our values set to our young people, in order to help them develop personally and socially both now and in the future. Our School Values are detailed later.

Our mission statement:

"We equip our young people with the knowledge, skills and opportunities necessary to achieve their potential; we inspire creative, independent and critical thinkers; we build confidence, passion and self-esteem in a nurturing, safe and encouraging learning community; we aim to develop citizens who can excel in their endeavours and contribute positively to society."

We are an dynamic, able and talented team, adopting a bold approach, and succeeding where many have failed. We believe in intervention at the earliest opportunity,  with an emphasis on treating everyone as an individual. We look at each young person and establish a support package that meets their individual needs. We place great importance on  induction, ensuring that we carefully examine each student's past experiences in order to analyse strategies that worked, those that didn't, and to help plan the way forward. We also spend a lot of time teaching our students how their brain works, and how they can create and achieve the right mind-set to achieve genuine success. When required, we use a range of therapies that will help a young person overcome barriers that are in their way, and support them in making improved progress. We currently employ specialist staff to deliver 3 main courses undertaken as part of our curriculum (Sport Therapy, Art Therapy, Yoga (mindfulness) Therapy) and also a full time Cognitive Behaviour Therapist on site.

We are a friendly, welcoming and caring school. We believe that people achieve more when they feel happy, secure and valued. Our philosophy is to educate the whole person; we want our students to enjoy their learning and we have high expectations for their behaviour as well as their academic and social progress.

Team spirit and determination is very much part of the ethos here and there are high expectations that all staff, pupils, parents and other professionals will work in collaboration to make a positive contribution to the life of the school.  We place a huge emphasis on mutual support through which we develop our shared professionalism. We are reflective and adaptive in our practice, happy to try out new ideas.
