Curriculum Break Down

  • The Level 1 Diploma is a one-year course, with progression to Level 2 available in the candidates second year. There is mixed ability across the cohort and students will have the opportunity to complete the Level 1 over two years, with the option to stay on for a third year and complete their Level 2. The course is in Painting & Decorating and is under the construction framework. Throughout the course, students will cover all course content, from theory to practical, which involves several formal assessments for each unit plus a knowledge evidence test. There are also two online mandatory unit tests to take. Although it is a Painting & Decorating course, students may also learn a range of basic multi-trade skills (including joinery, plastering, and brick laying).

  • The level 2 certificate is completed over the course of two years and is a total of 150 learning hours. The qualification is all course work with a portfolio of work is assessed at the end of the of the course. Students will cover units which include: applying for a job, managing personal finance as an employee, overcoming barriers to work, enterprise skills and exploring business and enterprise. Some of the units covered in the Employability skills course, cross link with the business Enterprise course. This is a common approach across the whole curriculum.

  • This course accredits up to 60 hours of enterprise activities and provides students with the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills and how to use them effectively. The course is fun, informative and engaging and students really enjoy and benefit from it.

  • We offer DofE Gold to all of our students. Students are able to achieve the Gold Award by completing the required hours of physical, skill and the required voluntary work-based activities. The Duke of Edinburgh programme is highly recognised by employers as teaching valuable skills and qualities that can be transferred into every day life/areas of employment.

  • PROvision's Maths and English curricula are bespoke learning journeys: we aim for all our students to achieve a Level 4+ GCSE over a two-year period.

Resits are offered in November or June, according to the level of confidence shown by the student and their assessment results: we would discuss exam entry with the student and their parent/carer to ensure the right path is followed for the individual. We hold regular termly assessments using GCSE past papers and select areas of confusion or concern to revise in our lessons, and we also select themes which support other areas of the curriculum. For examples, we may investigate Area by exploring how many paint cans are needed to cover the walls; we work out percentages based on current rates for Business Start-Up Loans; we evaluate leaflets and websites from different construction companies before creating flyers for our proposed business.

We recognise that some students may find GCSE Maths and English a significant challenge, and whilst we will always encourage and support students to aim for a GCSE, there is an option to complete a Foundation Level in these subjects during a third year of college, again, this would be after consultation.

Where students have successfully completed their GCSEs in English and/or Maths, an alternative accredited course will be offered e.g., Silver or Gold Arts Award, Sports, I.T.
