Sexual Health & Relationship

This very important topic is one which can be difficult to talk about, especially with children. At Egerton, we provide as many opportunities as possible to understand and question what we mean by sexual health and relationships. With guest speakers, models and introductory activities we make learning all about sexual health simple. So why is it so important to understand sexual health from a young age? Well, sexual health actually plays a massive role in our mental and emotional health, and is some thing we will consider for the rest of our lives. Sexually Transmitted Diseases, or ‘STI’s’, are more common in young people than any other age group. This is because without the facts, it can be difficult to understand how such diseases can be prevented. The simple use of contraceptives can stop the spread of disease and also prevent unwanted pregnancies, and they can be obtained for free from your local sexual health clinic! But understanding safe sex is not the only thing which ensures strong sexual health. It is also important to consider how positive and happy relationships effect our health and wellbeing as a whole. Providing young people with the knowledge they need to have positive relationships can prevent emotional instability and abuse later in life, and is also vital to achieving positive sexual health.
