Performing Arts at Egerton High School (KS3)

At Egerton High School, Performing Arts provides our KS3 students with a creative and supportive space to explore self-expression, teamwork, and confidence. As an SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school, we use drama and performance as powerful tools for building communication skills, emotional understanding, and self-esteem.

Curriculum Overview

Throughout KS3, students experience a wide range of performing arts activities designed to develop their creativity, confidence, and collaborative skills. The curriculum includes:

  • Study of Scripts: Students explore a variety of scripts and short plays, learning how to interpret characters, understand dialogue, and bring text to life through performance.

  • Freeze Frames and Mime: Learners use physical theatre techniques such as freeze frames, tableaux, and mime to tell stories without words, developing body awareness and non-verbal communication.

  • Confidence Building: Lessons focus on personal growth through performance, helping students to express themselves safely, manage stage anxiety, and celebrate individual achievements.

  • Study of Musicals and Plays: Pupils study scenes and songs from well-known musicals and plays, gaining an appreciation for different genres, performance styles, and cultural contexts.

  • Whole-School Productions: Students have opportunities to take part in whole-school performances, where they can apply their skills in acting, singing, dance, or technical theatre in a collaborative setting.

  • Design and Production: Learners engage with the creative process behind the stage, contributing to set design, costumes, and props, fostering teamwork and problem-solving.
